The Warrior basketball team has gotten off to a hot start. Currently sitting at 11-4 with a 3-4 record in the 6A Granite Peaks League, they’ve already beaten the likes of Longmont, Peak to Peak, and Fairview.
Led by Senior center Nick Jones (9.5 Points Per Game PPG), Junior forward Harry Lyle (8.5 PPG), and Junior guards Finn Glaser and Faya Tolino (8.5 PPG, 6.9 PPG), this 2025-26 rendition of the Centaurus Basketball team is off to their best start since the 2021-22 season – in which the Warriors were led by top scorer John Lewicki on their way to a 20-6 record and a spot in the 4A state playoffs. This might be the Warriors’ most well-rounded team of all time – there’s no clear #1 on the squad, but the amount of players averaging at least 6 Points Per Game (7) is the highest since Points Per Game started being recorded on Maxpreps in 2010. Unlike times where the best Centaurus teams had clear #1 options on offense like Owen Koonce (‘16-’20) and Nate McGinley (‘08-’12), this is the first time that the Warriors have had a winning record with their top scorer averaging under 10 Points Per Game.
This doesn’t mean that the Warriors have an easy path to the playoffs, though. Their upcoming schedule sets them up to face the likes of Holy Family, Monarch, and Horizon. The Warriors went 3-10 last year during league play, and their recent move up to 6A after the 2023-24 season doesn’t make competition any easier. What helps, though, is a very strong Junior class. 5 out of the 7 players averaging at least 6 PPG are Juniors, which indicates that the best might be yet to come for Centaurus later in the year. There’s still a lot of season left, and the Warriors have a lot of talent to go far and make the playoffs.
