In September of 2024, during the Bando Stone tour, Donald Glover, under his famous alias Childish Gambino, shockingly cancelled his tour. This was followed by a social media disappearance, leaving fans confused and concerned.
This was the main focus of my previous article regarding Donald Glover. Since then, there have been more updates on Glover’s health, music career, and a possible movie of the sitcom Community.
Firstly, during Tyler the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw, Glover elaborated on his absence from music and social media, telling the crowd that he suffered a stroke and that doctors found a hole in his heart. Glover had surgery, and took to Twitter to tell fans he had to cancel the rest of his tour while he recovers. He also gave a positive message, saying “I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support” (Per VICE).
Encouragingly, Glover did return to performance in some way, voicing Yoshi in the recent Super Mario Galaxy Movie. He has also done several interviews recently, which suggests a bigger return to the spotlight. On top of that, he reopened the door to making music, saying he still really loves music and could see himself returning sometime (Per Yahoo).
Before Donald Glover became a household name through both music and acting, his performance on the show Community was his earliest big success. Glover left the show in its fifth and penultimate season, as did much of the original cast. One of the show’s main catchphrases was “Six seasons and a movie”, hinting at a continuation of the story through a final movie, featuring all of the original cast. Information about this movie has stayed elusive: While rumors indicate that the movie is in production, the progress of this movie has likely been slow, as the original members are busy with other projects.
That is why it was surprising that in a recent interview, Glover confirmed the movie was in the making, and that the cast’s group text is very active (Per People).
Since his stroke, Glover has been recovering and slowly creeping back into the spotlight. While no movie, TV show, or album with Glover as the main star have been announced yet, it’s reasonable to remain optimistic on Glover’s future projects as he returns to health.
