Since 2023, construction has been underway at Centaurus High School. This construction has included expanding the engineering wing, adding new bathrooms, and new updates to the auditorium. The new engineering wing, the biggest projectof all, will give the many engineers at Centaurus a place to further their learning and improve their skills.
For almost two decades, Centaurus has been considered an “engineering school”, taking pride in its award winning Engineering program. With many students joining the engineering program each school year and many who will spend all four of their high school years in it. The new addition will give more space for the continually growing program. Additionally, the new wing will increase lab and classroom space as well as give the department a new wood shop area.
Centaurus offers six engineering classes. Many of these classes, though covering very different subjects, must use the same classroom due to limited space. An extra classroom and lab will allow the number of class periods of an engineering course to be increased, giving more students the opportunity to participate in them. The extra classroom and lab will also create an opportunity for these different courses to spread out and not have to share classrooms, giving students the chance to get more out of their respective classes.
Students within the engineering program are getting increasingly excited and ready for the construction to be finished. One engineering student said, “I am very excited for the addition. I think it is a great opportunity that we get to expand the wing and make our program better. I think it will allow for more room to build things as it is getting pretty crammed.” Another student added, “I think this is a very positive addition for the engineering wing and I am excited to see it done!”
The construction for the new engineering wing is set to finish by the end of September., Mmore construction will continue in different areas of the school until the beginning of next school year.
