When you think of the best comedy shows on television, The Office and Parks and Recreation are the things that first come to mind for most people. But New Girl is a show that should be talked about more.

About a year ago, a good friend of mine recommended the show to me. By the end of that night, I was 12 episodes in. Its the perfect example of a comfort show: the characters become your best friends almost immediately.

The story follows Jess, a woman who moves in with three men after a brutal breakup. The men, Nick, Winston, and Schmidt have to adjust to living with a woman as their new roommate. The cast surrounding them is fantastic, and the show is just incredibly fun to watch.

After spending way too much time thinking about this show and watching it countless times, I think I have figured out why it is one of the best shows on television. There are two parts to this show that come together to create an incredible watching experience. Firstly, the complete and utter hilarity that happens each and every episode helps the viewer escape from any and all of their problems. This works so well in the context of the show because it’s paired with the most heartfelt and incredibly sensitive moments on TV. The viewer experiences every emotion possible throughout the series, carried on the backs of some of the best characters on any screen.

It really is something that can be put on to fit any mood. I’ve recommended it to so many friends, and I haven’t gotten a bad review once, so now I ‘m recommending it to you!
