The 2025-26 Centaurus boys golf season has brought with it hardships, strengths, positive memories, connection, and opportunities to be involved with the community. Overall, this year has been one of growth, discipline, and teambuilding as the team took on 11 tournaments and various additional events, such as the 2nd Annual Booster Tournament. To get more insight on the season and each player’s unique experiences and takeaways, I interviewed a few players, along with their coach, Bill Kipp, who has been coaching high school golf for 11 years following his professional career.
From playing at some of the best courses in Colorado to connecting at practice, this season has been full of positive experiences. Concluding his second season with the warriors, Coach Kipp said, “My best memory of the season is the tournament in Loveland at the Olde Course which is a scenic, interesting and challenging course. It is a favorite course of mine since I have played in several tournaments there and was the First Assistant Professional at Mariana Butte, the other city of Loveland golf course, for several years”. Co-captain, Sage Bailey (12), expressed that the highlights of his season were “meeting new players,” “making new connections with some of the younger guys,” and “being able to be a good influence,” while sophomore Beckett Jones responded, “My best memory of the season was when I got my first eagle in a high school tournament at the league match at Thorncreek”.
Although the season brought many positives, it was not without its difficulties. The team competed on many courses, and a select few provided extra challenges. Sage Bailey claimed that he “had an unfortunate round at Thorncreek” and “didn’t play the best that [he] wanted to be able to play,” while Beckett Jones stated that his most challenging course was The Olde Course in Loveland because it is “set up [to be] extremely challenging and featured some very difficult holes”. Another player reported that he “appreciate[s] the challenge of playing on different courses because it improves [his] game,” but claims, “It’s always a frustrating process to get better because I have to try the challenges and fail first”.
This year, Centaurus held the 2nd Annual Booster Tournament at Indian Peaks Golf Course in Lafayette. This event consisted of various schools and outside parties that were interested in playing a scramble-style tournament and supporting the Centaurus Golf Team though the Centaurus Warriors Booster Club. Players across Boulder County and beyond were able to attend and had the opportunity to play against some of the players. Bailey, who attended, said, “I had a great time at the Booster Tournament. I played with three of my other teammates, Max Lychok, Will Burhost, and Beckett Jones. We had a great time. We ended up shooting a score of 67 and got to see a lot of other people and it was very fun”. He says he “hopes to see it again next year”.
Now, as the season comes to an end, the team is able to look back and see how it unfolded. Their growth in both skill and personal connections has been tremendous this season, with new friendships made and goals achieved. A large majority of the players wish to play again next year and agree that the season is one to remember. After consulting Coach Kipp, he enthusiastically remarked, “I enjoy coaching the Centaurus boys’ golf team! This season we have had consistently good weather and that has helped the team make good use of our practice time”. However, he added that “one thing [he’s] learned is to never leave practice balls unattended around the short game practice area because they will disappear like magic!” Congratulations on another great season, Warriors!
