Sunday, February 9, 2025 was one of the best days of my life. The Eagles, the team I have rooted for since I was a child, won their second Super Bowl of my lifetime and of the team’s history. It was amazing. The Chiefs, evil leaders of the league, on the hunt for their third-straight championship, were completely destroyed on national TV. I couldn’t have created a better outcome if I had tried. If you were to have asked me what an ideal Super Bowl would have been, it would have been this one.
For starters, Jalen Hurts finally proved that he is in fact “that guy”, something that I have been confident of for years. It was so awesome to see the “he can’t throw” allegations disappear when he hit DeVonta Smith on the 54 yard touchdown pass that was the dagger in this game. I am so happy that he won Super Bowl MVP—he deserves it.

Aside from the passing attack, Saquon Barkley had the kind of game we needed him to because the Chiefs absolutely refused to let him get any space. It opened up a lot of other options for the offense and allowed for A.J Brown, Dallas Goedert, Smith, and even Jahan Dotson to get in on the fun. Seeing Saquon in blitz pickup was a blast and you can tell how much he loves this team. However, the star of the show tonight was the defense.
For a defense that was the worst in the league last year, this performance makes it even more special. I have never seen Patrick Mahomes look as flustered as he did in the first half. The Chiefs didn’t even make it to midfield for the entire duration. Two interceptions, both by players new to the team (rookie Cooper DeJean and Zack Baun who was signed in free agency), shows how well the team has been built following the disaster of last year’s collapse. The team lost in the first round of the playoffs following an 11-0, but retooling took place in all the right places.
Howie Roseman, the Eagles GM, showed why he is one of the best, if not the best, in the entire NFL with a lot of the signings and draft selections that he made. In addition to the two mentioned above, Quinyon Mitchell, Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Nolan Smith are all players newer to the team that have made tremendous impacts. It was especially great to watch the Eagles defensive line wreak havoc without blitzing once. They got to Mahomes six times and made him uncomfortable all night, culminating in a Milton Williams strip sack. He is another member of the defense that had a great night, along with Josh Sweat, Jalyx Hunt, and Brandon Graham in his last game for the Eagles.
I would put in an argument for the 2024-2025 Philadelphia Eagles being one of the top five Super Bowl champions of all time, if not higher. I think this team also has a great opportunity to run it back with this current core, but this upcoming offseason will be very key, especially because the Eagles’ defense has so many free agents. However, I have full confidence in Howie Roseman, and I am very excited to see where this group of players take us. Go Birds!
