On September fourteenth, the parking lot of Centaurus High School was alive with the sound of engines and the buzz of excitement as DECA hosted its highly anticipated, very first, student-run car show fundraiser. The event drew in car enthusiasts, families, and community members together for a day filled with stunning vehicles, engaging activities, and camaraderie, all in support of DECA. For a closer look at the inner workings and experiences of the DECA car show, I was happy to talk to a wide range of students and car show participants.
I was lucky enough to speak with a multitude of DECA leaders starting with Brody Landis.
Q: Who am I here with today?
Brody L: Brody Landis
Q: What brings you here to the car show?
Brody L: I’m in DECA.
Q: How do you like DECA?
Brody L: Its good, very… business.
Q: That’s great! Do you like cars?
Brody L: Yeah I Like cars. They have an engine and wheels and a drive shaft. The engine spins, it makes the drive shaft spin and that makes the wheels spin and goes ‘eeer, burrrr, burr.’
Q: Thank you Brody.
The car community was brought together, whether it was students at our very own school, to people with a deep love for cars. Brody Landis was extremely excited to be in the event, giving us insight into his experience as a leader within the Centaurus DECA program
Next, I had the pleasure to speak with another amazing leader in the DECA program.
Q: Hi, who am I here with?
Eilie M: Eilie Moore
Q: Great! Hi Eilie, what’s your role here at the DECA car show?
Eilie M: I’m a DECA leader and am here to help the attendees here at the car show.
Q: That’s wonderful, how is the voting system set up here, and how are you making your revenue for this fundraiser?
Eilie M: Great question, our voting system is set up by the attendees paying a fee to vote for a car. Each of the competing cars has a number. When people vote we write down the number, and at the end the car with the most votes wins.
Q: Thank you Eilie!
It’s evident that the leaders at the DECA car show are very insightful and hands-on with this amazing fundraiser. It’s great to see students passionate about learning these business skills to further their future careers. Those who attended the show gave insight into the DECA programs as well as the car community. All participants had personal stories to share. The car show will happen again next year in the spring.
DECA’s student-run car show was more than just a fundraiser; it was a way to show the power of community engagement and the ability of young leaders to make a positive impact. As the sun set on a day filled with horsepower and heart, it was clear that this event not only met its fundraising goals but also strengthened community bonds, leaving attendees eagerly anticipating the next show that is said to be set in spring. With a successful blueprint in place, DECA is well on its way to revving up for an even bigger and better event in the future.
